After stopping the catastrophic event that collapsed magic, Penn returns to a drastically changed present day. Magic is everywhere. As Penn gets used to the changes, she becomes aware of a magical blackout that occurred the moment she returned. As a result, Drisdari Forest, a place said to protect legendary magic, temporarily went dormant, unleashing dangerous creatures that brought chaos beyond the forest’s borders.

The dormancy also allowed the most powerful entity the forest guards to wake up and set its sights on Penn by corrupting one of the forest’s powerful guardians and turning him into a lethal assassin.

Penn is surprised by the reasons this entity wants her dead, and discovers she may play a role in the balance of universal creation and destruction she never asked for, but may have no choice but to step into. She also has to help Callan navigate a devastating truth that jeopardizes his existence, understand the unexpected power that caused the blackout, and try to avoid a prophecy that could tear apart those closest to her.

Things come to a head when Penn realizes the corruption spread by the destructive entity puts everyone she loves at risk. Now Penn has to wage war to keep her friends and the man who has her heart alive before an inescapable darkness falls over them.
